Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giorgos Gerapetritis is in India on an official visit. Addressing the Indian English-speaking news channel WION (The World is One News), the Greek Minister spoke about the bilateral relations between Greece and India, as well as Greece’s position in today’s world.
The Minister emphasized that the country is a staunch supporter of the promotion of the International Rule of Law and stated that “International Law is not only a precondition, but the necessary tool to achieve peace in the world”. In particular, touching upon the importance of implementing the International Law of the Sea (also known as UNCLOS), the Minister stressed that despite the challenges faced by each country when applying the International Law of the Sea, over the years, it becomes more evident that it is to the interest of “all states to be actively involved in the employment and further advancement of UNCLOS”.
Mr. Gerapetritis also informed the audience about his latest participation in the EU-Indo-Pacific Forum recently held in Brussels, where deliberations focused on the reinforcement of the mutual bond between these two regions. Aspiring to become an elected member of the UN Security Council for the biennium 2025/26, Greece is a steadfast supporter of both the International Rule of Law and the maritime protection of the world’s seas.
