The Hellenic Republic participated in the 3rd EU-Indo-Pacific and the 24th EU-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Ministerial Meetings which were held in Brussels on February 2. These fora aspire to unite EU Foreign Ministers and their counterparts from the Indo-Pacific region and Southeast Asia, in order to discuss key steps towards common goals, as well as to boost cross-regional synergy-building and thematic knowledge around a series of interrelated challenges.
Addressing the Meetings, Greek Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis elaborated on the priorities of the Hellenic candidacy for the United Nations Security Council for the biennium 2025/26. Within this context, Minister Gerapetritis underlined that Greece’s priorities are aligned with those endorsed by the countries of the regions of the Indo-Pacific and Southeast Asia.
Furthermore, Minister Gerapetritis seized the opportunity to inform his counterparts about the upcoming 9th Our Ocean Conference, scheduled to take place in Athens, in April 15-17. Stressing the importance of the 9th edition and the momentum which has been created, Mr. Gerapetritis reassured his partners that Greece seeks to deepen cooperation with the countries of the aforementioned regions, with an emphasis on the common challenges island states face, such as the future of their economic activity, the protection of their natural environment and the resourceful management of their energy.
