Children First

Greece has now become the 50th member of the Group of Friends of Children & Armed Conflict in the United Nations. On June 19, the Hellenic Mission participated in the Group’s meeting chaired by the Canadian Mission, during which, UN Special Representative of Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba briefed the Group’s participants about the grave violations against children.

This is a painful reminder of our need to continue the fight for the protection of the vulnerable and children in particular. During its tenure at the Security Council 2025/26, Greece vows to empower and enable participants to contribute to the implementation of the CAAC Agenda (Children and Armed Conflict Agenda).

Sexual Violence during conflict

In commemoration of the 10th observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict (June 19), the Hellenic Mission reiterated its commitment to pursue the ‘Women, Peace and Security’ Agenda in order to prevent and address sexual violence in conflict. Addressing a meeting on the matter, the Greek Ambassador underlined that the issue falls under one of Greece’s main priorities for its 2025/26 tenure on the Security Council. It is important to ensure accountability for the perpetrators, as well as relief and recovery for the survivors, particularly through the protection of ‘in situ’ medical facilities.
