Greece at the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Association of Caribbean States

Pursuing an active and dynamic foreign policy to effectively promote national goals, Greece participated in the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) held in Guatemala on May 11 and 12, 2023.

The event was attended by Ambassador Maria Theofili, Head of the D General Directorate of International Organizations and International Security and Cooperation, as well as Special Envoy for the candidature of Greece as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025-26.

In the margins of ACS Greece promoted, through a series of targeted bilateral meetings, the Greek candidacy for a seat at the UN Security Council. Ambassador Theofili was also given the chance to inform her interlocutors about the planned hosting in Greece, in 2024, of the 9th “Our Ocean Conference”.

In Guatemala, Ambassador Theofili had a series of meetings with government officials from Saint Lucia, Haiti, Barbados, Suriname, Saint Kitts and Nevis, El Salvador, the Bahamas, Bolivia. All meetings took place in a particularly warm atmosphere, with the discussions focusing on issues of common interest such as climate change, shipping and maritime safety, tourism, cultural heritage. Furthermore, the additional challenges faced by the less developed countries were highlighted, and in this context satisfaction was repeatedly expressed for the priorities that Greece has set in its candidacy for the Security Council as well as support for the Greek candidacy.
