On December 9, we observe the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, also known as Genocide Prevention Day. On the same day, in New York, Greece participated in the UN High-Level Event on the 75th anniversary of the Genocide Convention, joining its voice to those who call for action in addressing the scourge of mass atrocities.
Greece believes that settlement of disputes ought to be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy, two fundamental principles of the UN Charter and the bedrock of the Hellenic Candidature to the UN Security Council for 2025/26. If elected, Greece, already a staunch supporter of the primacy of International Law, will seek to employ a wide array of tools for the prevention and resolution of international disputes.

May 19 has been designated as Pontian Greek Genocide Remembrance Day, in memory of the approximately 353.000 Pontian Greeks exterminated in the Black Sea area and Asia Minor between 1916 and 1923, a period through which all traces of Christian Greek heritage were uprooted and destroyed.
