In discussions with the EU Special Rep for the Horn of Africa

On November 18, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met with the EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Dr. Annette Weber, on the sidelines of the European Council’s Foreign Affairs configuration in Brussels (FAC).

During the discussions with Dr. Weber, the Greek Minister highlighted the importance of maritime security, especially within the context of Greece’s participation in the United Nations Security Council, in the framework of which, Greece has given a clearer priority to this matter, leveraging policies to that end. The necessity of facilitating the enforcement of the ‘freedom of the seas’ principle in the Sub-Saharan Africa, is of crucial importance in securing international peace and security.

The mandate of the Special Representative for the Horn of Africa is to actively contribute to regional and international efforts to achieve lasting peace, security and development in the region. The Special Representative also aims to enhance the quality, intensity and impact of the EU’s multifaceted engagement in the Horn of Africa. Greece has vowed to cooperate closely with the Special Representative and in accordance with the principles of the International Law.
