As a friend and partner of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), in early April, the Hellenic Republic’s Mission to the UN participated in the launch of the Small Islands Digital States Report. The Document is a roadmap on how SIDS’s digital transformation can contribute to the development of the States per se, but also to the improvement of climate conditions globally.
The world’s 39 Small Island Developing States – or SIDS – account for a meagre one per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions that are driving climate change, yet they are amongst the countries most vulnerable to this existential threat. Therefore, innovation is imperative for SIDS in particular but also for the world as a whole. Digital innovation can start from leveraging simple nature-based solutions to protect crucial environmental assets and can go on to efforts such as Cabo Verde’s groundbreaking sustainable finance platform, Blu-x.
