The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is held annually on 17 October. It originated in 1987, when a massive gathering in Paris proclaimed poverty as a violation of human rights. The proclamation of the day aims to promote understanding and dialogue between people living in poverty and wider society. The Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty and a chance for them to make their concerns heard.
Greece is committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and all its 17 Goals, especially in its capacity as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council.
