Greece participated in the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) held in Doha, between March 5 and 9, 2023, represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Costas Fragkogiannis.
On the sidelines of the Conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Fragogiannis – accompanied by the Special Envoy for the promotion of Greece’s candidacy to the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador Maria Theofili – held a series of targeted bilateral meetings with heads of delegations participating in the Conference with the aim of securing support for the Greek candidacy.
In particular, bilateral meetings were held with high-ranking officials from Bhutan, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Zimbabwe, Kiribati, Malawi, the Fiji Islands, Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda. Furthermore, Ambassador Theofili had additional meetings with officials from Eritrea, Congo, Mali, Mauritius, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Yemen.
The meetings took place in a warm atmosphere, with the officials of the LDC countries expressing satisfaction for Greece’s constructive attitude towards the issues that concern them. As a whole, the interlocutors of the Greek delegation expressed support for the Greek candidacy for the UN Security Council and its priorities.
