On June 26 1945, in San Francisco, the UN Charter was signed, laying the foundation for global peace and cooperation. It came into force on 24 October 1945. The Charter calls for the UN to maintain international peace and security; promote social progress and better standards of life; strengthen international law; and promote human rights. The goals are just as relevant today as they were 79 years ago.
Greece, a UN founding member and an elected member of the UN Security Council for 2025/26, stands firm in its dedication to the Charter’s principles of peace, equality and international Rule of Law.
