Ahead of the 9th edition of the ‘Our Ocean Conference’ scheduled to take place in Athens, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing meeting with foreign Embassies’ delegates to invite everyone on board this international environmental conference held from April 15 to 17 and raise awareness among the foreign diplomatic missions based in the city of Athens.

Greece is the proud host of the 9th iteration of the “The Our Ocean Conferences” (OOC), a summit first launched under the initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the Secretary of State John Kerry in 2014, aiming to fill in the then-existing gap in global ocean governance.

Since then, the institution of the “Our Ocean Conferences” has become an overarching forum for dialogue that brings together governments, intergovernmental organizations, academia, the private sector, and NGOs that share a common vision for the protection of the oceans. Moreover, over the past decade, OOC has mobilized more than 2,160 commitments worth approximately USD 130 billion.

The Greek edition aspires to capitalize on these achievements and highlight the significance of the Mediterranean Sea for the global marine ecosystem. Greek priorities will also include sustainable tourism, green shipping, reduction of marine plastic and green transition in the Mediterranean.
