Greece participated in the 2nd Session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly on housing and sustainable development, held in Nairobi, between 5 and 9 June 2023, represented by Ambassador Maria Theofili, the head of the D General Directorate of International Organizations and International of Security and Cooperation and Special Envoy for the candidature of Greece as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Ambassador Theophili had a series of targeted bilateral contacts to promote Greece’s candidacy to the UN, with representatives of countries such as Angola, Malawi, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Namibia, Central African Republic. The discussions focused on issues of common interest, the challenges faced by the international community from the successive crises, as well as the eventual written engagement of support of the Greek candidacy. The high dignitaries expressed support for Greece’s candidacy and absolute agreement with Greece’s priorities.
