On June 20, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the round table “Greece at the Security Council. A Preparatory Dialogue” in Athens, in partnership with the UN’s Think Bridge ‘Conflict Prevention & Peace Forum’ of the Social Science Research Council and the Greek think tank ELIAMEP (Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy).
This one-day event invited international experts from the academia, the United Nations and foreign and domestic think tanks. Its agenda comprised of different sessions, all of which highlighted the challenges and opportunities of Greece during its tenure on the Security Council during the years 2025/26.
Through insightful interventions, participating speakers addressed an array of serious issues ranging from climate security to regional peace, UN’s institutional vulnerabilities and the bold target of effective multilateral diplomacy, followed by an interactive dialogue on the subject. The event shed light on the priorities already set by the Hellenic Republic, which will serve as a roadmap for its tenure and invited participants to engage in a thought-provoking dialogue about new opportunities that lie ahead and how to focus on best capitilising on them.
