World Day on the Protection of children against exploitation, abuse, violence

Nov 18, 2024 | News and Media

Today is World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence. The sexual abuse and exploitation of children is a violation of human rights and a public health problem with significant consequences for global health and development.

As United Nations Security Council elected member for the biennium 2025/26, Greece reaffirms its principled position of eliminating all forms of violence and abuse against children globally, especially in times of conflict, and to give voice to children’s actual needs. Action can bring healing and change. In particular, Greece will prioritize accountability for violations committed against children in armed conflict, by focusing on both prevention and remedy through the effective functioning of child-friendly judicial and non-judicial mechanisms. Moreover, Greece looks forward to assuming the chairmanship of the “Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) Agenda” Working Group.
