At today’s Security Council Open Debate on “Poverty, Underdevelopment and Conflict” organized under Guyana’s Presidency, the Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris:
➡️ underlined that poverty and underdevelopment are not just development issues but threats to international peace and security and called for integrated solutions guided by the Sustainable Develompent Goals (SDGs) and the UNSG’s New Agenda For Peace.
➡️ reaffirmed Greece’s strong support for an expanded role of the Peacebuilding Commission in tackling root causes of conflict, including food insecurity and climate risks
➡️ called for the need to support conflict-affected communities through concrete action, highlighting Greece’s recently funded humanitarian projects in Gaza and Benghazi to ensure access to food, healthcare, and regional stability.
