At this morning’s monthly briefing of the Security Council on the situation in Yemen, CdA of Greece, Mr. Ioannis Stamatekos:
➡️ firmly condemned recent Houthi attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, underlining that violence targeting seafarers and shipping blatantly violates international law and must cease immediately.
➡️ demanded the immediate release of the detained crew members of MV Eternity C
➡️ emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab el-Mandeb strait
➡️ stressed the continued importance of the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, of which Greece is a principal member and contributor, and whose defensive mandate is pivotal for safeguarding international shipping in the region.
