At today’s UNSC briefing on the Situation in the Middle East – Syria (Chemical Weapons – OPCW report), Greece:
➡️ expressed full support to the principles and objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention, as well as for the OPCW in the impartial, professional, and rigorous execution of its mandate
➡️ took note of the tangible progress reported by the OPCW Secretariat on the resolution of the chemical weapons file of Syria and welcomed the willingness demonstrated by the interim Syrian authorities, noting the challenges ahead
➡️ stressed that it will contribute financially to the Trust Fund for Syria Missions of OPCW and that it stands ready to provide further assistance, in particular training, in order to aid Syria implement its obligations from the Chemical Weapons Convention.
