The Security Council met today to discuss the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals – IRMCT (for Rwanda and for former Yugoslavia). Greece stated that:
➡️ during the reporting semi-annual period, IRMCT rendered one of the highest numbers of decisions and orders in its history, reflecting its continued relevance in the areas of judicial proceedings and sentence enforcement
➡️ the Mechanism’s prosecutorial support to national jurisdictions remains vital, particularly in assisting with investigations, prosecutions, and responses to requests for international legal cooperation
➡️ the importance of the Mechanism’s contribution as the UN prepares the forthcoming report of the Secretary-General is worth noting, as its comprehensive input will be essential in ensuring continued justice for international crimes and upholding the rule of law.
