At the urgent UNSC meeting called today to discuss the latest developments on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Greece:
➡️ condemned the recent killings in eastern DRC of a large number of civilians by the M23 backed by RDF and called for an immediate ceasefire, as well as for M23’s withdrawal from all controlled areas
➡️ also condemned last week’s attacks committed by ADF in various locations of North Kivu
➡️ encouraged all parties to abide by the Washington Peace Agreement & the Doha Declaration of Principles while continuing to work towards the finalization of a comprehensive agreement leading to a lasting peace
➡️ reiterated Greece’s strong support to DRC’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity as well as MONUSCO’s work, condemning any restrictions undermining its mandate
➡️ strongly called on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians from harm and uphold all their obligations under IHL and IHRL and supported calls for increased humanitarian funding by the international community.
