UNSC briefing on the situation in Libya and the work of UNSMIL

The Security Council convened today for a briefing on the situation in Libya and the work of UNSMIL. Greece:

➡️ expressed support for the efforts of SRSG Hanna Tetteh and head of UNSMIL to achieve progress along the political roadmap, towards the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections

➡️ welcomed the Presidential Council’s efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Tripoli and called for the withdrawal for all foreign forces and mercenaries

➡️ called for the respect of international law and the effective implementation of the sanctions regime, underlining, in this regard, the importance of EU Operation IRINI

➡️ Repeated once again its commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity and its readiness to actively contribute to their safeguarding.
