UN Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question

At today’s UNSC open debate on Palestine, the Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Sekeris:

➡ underscored the importance of the negotiations coming into fruition with the aim of achieving a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, while securing the release of all hostages

➡ highlighted the need to ensure the unhindered and continuous flow of aid at scale into all of Gaza, as the humanitarian blockade deprives people of the means for survival

➡ expressed concern over the alarming humanitarian and security situation in the rest of the OPT, including the increase of settlement activity and the displacement of people from refugee camps

➡ emphasized that the special Status Quo of Jerusalem and its Old City must be protected and respected by all and at all times.

➡ stressed that the June Conference, under the co-presidency of France and Saudi Arabia, presents a unique opportunity to revitalize the political process towards the two-state solution, according to relevant UNSC Resolutions
