UN Security Council on the Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts

At the UN Security Council briefing on the Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece:

↪ Expressed concern for the ongoing activity of terrorist groups including Daesh -most notably in Africa, Syria and other places- by exploiting political transitions and security vacuums.

↪ Stressed that the Syrian government must step up its counterterrorism and counter extremism efforts, as well as to address the issue of foreign fighters and security sector reform.

↪ Highlighted the serious implications of terrorism at sea for maritime security emphasizing the need to combat this serious threat.

↪ Reiterated Greece’s support of “whole-of-government”, victim centered and human rights based approach in counter terrorism, as opposed to just security and military strategies.
