Jan 22, 2026 | News and Media

At the UN Security Council briefing on the Situation in the Middle East (Syria), the Permanent Representative of Greece:

↪ Acknowledged the progress that Syria achieved in 2025, but also the challenges it still faces; especially related to inclusivity and safeguarding the security and rights of all Syrians, regardless of ethnic and religious background.

↪ Stressed that the clashes in Northeastern Syria underscore the continued fragility of the political transition; leading to thousands fleeing and dozens dead.

↪ Underlined that the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF should be fully and immediately implemented by all sides.

↪ Welcomed the Presidential decree formally recognizing Kurdish identity as part of Syria’s national fabric; as the protection of Kurds and all components of Syrian society must be ensured and safeguarded.
