At the UN Security Council briefing on Sudan and South Sudan, the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪ Condemned the deliberate drone attack against the UNISFA logistics base in Kadugli, which led to the tragic loss of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers. Attacks against UN peacekeepers are unacceptable and may constitute war crimes. Accountability is essential.
↪ Expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in Kordofan and the devastating impact of the conflict on civilians, especially women and girls. Protection of civilians and unhindered humanitarian access are imperative.
↪ Stressed that there can be no military solution in Sudan. We urge all parties to engage in good faith with the United Nations, African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development and other relevant partners toward an immediate ceasefire and a Sudanese-owned, Sudanese-led political process, in line with international law.
↪ Reiterated that preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential to avoid the further fragmentation of the country, regional destabilization and prolonged human suffering.
