At today’s UNSC Briefing on Syria (Chemical Weapons), the Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪ Condemned the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere, at any time and under any circumstances, including in Syria, and stressed the need to ensure accountability for all perpetrators.
↪ Welcomed the positive developments regarding the ongoing efforts of the new Syrian government to uncover the remnants of the Assad regime’s chemical weapons programme, secure the associated materials and equipment and prevent any potential threat to civilians.
↪ Encouraged the Syrian authorities to maintain their constructive cooperation with the OPCW, with a view to accelerating field visits to suspected sites and destruction operations.
↪ Underlined that Greece remains engaged with the competent Syrian authorities, with a view to provide further assistance and capacity building.
