At today’s UN Security Council meeting on the strikes against Bahrain and Kuwait, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪️ Reiterated Greece’s deep alarm at the latest missile and drone attacks and condemned them.
↪️ Expressed Greece’s full solidarity with Bahrain and all states that continue to be targeted.
↪️ Stressed that safeguarding the non-proliferation regime and ensuring the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme remain preconditions for sustainable stability.
↪️ Reaffirmed Greece’s strong support for ongoing diplomatic efforts, in particular the US-Iran negotiations, underlining that these must lead to sustained de-escalation, address legitimate security concerns, and deliver a stable and lasting peace in the region.
↪️ Reaffirmed that the Strait of Hormuz must immediately return to the status quo ante of safe, normal and unimpeded passage, with all vessels enjoying the right of transit passage under UNCLOS, free from obstruction, intimidation or interference.
