At today’s UN Security Council meeting on Sudan and South Sudan, the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪️ Expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan, particularly in El Obeid and Kordofan, where civilians -especially women and children-continue to bear the heaviest burden of the conflict. Protection of civilians must remain a priority.
↪️ Highlighted that reports of intensified attacks and the deployment of significant “Rapid Support Forces” (“RSF”) reinforcements around the city raise serious concerns.
↪️ Called for immediate de-escalation, protection of civilians, and safe, unhindered humanitarian access. There can be no military solution – only an inclusive political process can bring lasting peace.
↪️ Reaffirmed its strong support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and called on all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue toward a sustainable peace. The Security Council must remain united and actively engaged.
