At the UN Security Council emergency meeting on the Situation in the Middle East (Iran), the Permanent Representative of Greece:

↪ Stressed the need for restraint, warning against the consequences of a prolonged crisis.

↪ Strongly condemned the Iranian strikes against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

↪ Underscored that Iran should never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon and that diplomacy, grounded in verification and transparency, remains the only sustainable path forward.

↪ Urged for the respect of maritime security in the Gulf, the Straits of Hormuz and the Red Sea, urging Iran to refrain from any retaliatory action that could endanger freedom of navigation, threaten commercial shipping or further destabilize global energy and trade flows, constituting a blatant violation of the International Law of the Sea, as reflected in UNCLOS.

↪ Highlighted that protection of civilians must be a priority in any conflict, so that civilians do not bear the cost of military escalation.
