UN Security Council briefing on Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts

At today’s UNSC briefing on Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, Mr Stamatekos, Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the UN:

↪ emphasized Greece’s strong support to the continued development of the UN’s counter-terrorism architecture & expressed concern regarding the persistent threat of Da’esh to international and regional peace and security

↪ reiterated Greece’s support for UNSC Resolutions 2254 and underscored the urgent need for a credible political roadmap to address instability and prevent Da’esh from returning to Syria

↪ repeated Greece’s support to capacity-building initiatives that reinforce national and regional resilience, including in maritime domains

↪ condemned illicit trafficking of cultural heritage by Da’esh and others as it destroys history and fuels extremism, and urged full implementation of UNSC Resolutions 2199 & 2347 and UNGA Resolution 79/133, co-sponsored by Greece
