UN Security Council Briefing on the Situation in the Middle East – Syria (Chemical Weapons)

At today’s UNSC briefing on Syria (Chemical Weapons), the Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Sekeris:

➡ reiterated Greece’s support to Syria’s efforts to achieve progress and prosperity, and be a factor of stability for the wider region

➡ supported the work of the OPCW towards establishing the facts surrounding any use of chemical weapons, including toxic chemicals, for hostile purposes by the Assad regime

➡ welcomed the progress in the elimination of the Syrian Chemical Weapons Programme.

➡ called on Syria’s de facto authorities to engage constructively and in good faith with OPCW’s Technical Secretariat, in order to close the 19 outstanding issues and thus confirm that it has abandoned the use of chemical weapons and has concluded the total destruction of its stockpiles
