At this morning’s UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East, the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪ Welcomed the holding of the First Day of Dialogue by the EU in coordination with Syrian civil society and Transitional Government in Damascus—something unthinkable a year ago.
↪ Reaffirmed Greece’s call for a genuinely inclusive political transition in Syria and the full respect of its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. This will ensure Syria’s stable, legitimate and enduring recovery.
↪ Underscored that the humanitarian toll on the country, after years of civil strife, is immense—particularly on children.
↪ Argued that Syria will only be able to turn the page once full accountability and transitional justice have been served, allowing for reconstruction.
↪ Supported the crucial role of the UN and the relocation of the Office of the Special Envoy from Geneva to Damascus.
