On April 3, the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations in New York together with the UN Mission of the European Union and UNICEF were the cohosts of an event dedicated to the acute humanitarian situation in Haiti, where unending gang violence has displaced at least 170,000 children and pushed 5 million (60% of whom children) into severe malnutrition.
The event was held in the presence of UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell and all speakers emphasized the need to scale up assistance and protection. The Hellenic Mission in particular reiterated its commitment to help keep Haiti on the international agenda through consolidating its support towards the Caribbean Community and the latter’s efforts to encourage dialogue, intensify its humanitarian response and sustain efforts for development.
