Security Council meeting on the situation concerning the DRC

The Security Council convened on the developing situation in the DRC this afternoon. Permanent Representative of Greece, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeris:

➡️ strongly condemned the capture of the town of Sake and the invasion of Goma by M23

➡️ reiterated that the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the DRC must be fully respected

➡️ called for an immediate de-escalation and re-commitment to the ceasefire agreement under Luanda Process

➡️ expressed deep concern about the humanitarian consequences of the M23 offensive and called all parties to respect International Humanitarian law and ensure unrestricted humanitarian access.

➡️ reiterated Greece’s full support to MONUSCO on efforts to protect civilians, fulfilling its mandate under critical circumstances.
