On December 20, the United Nations Security Council plenary unanimously adopted Resolution 2764/ 2024 on Children and Armed Conflict, presented by Malta. The Resolution underscores the importance of preserving child protection capacities in UN mission transitions. The text is a call to action, with its key objectives being the necessity for sustainable child protection capacities in both conflict and post-conflict settings, as well as the importance of a smooth and responsible transfer of child protection responsibilities to UN country teams, during mission transitions or withdrawals. The Resolution was supported by more than one hundred member states, including the Hellenic Republic, marking it as the 14th resolution focused on children and armed conflict.

As an elected member of the UN Security Council for the years 2025/26, Greece will continue to actively promote and integrate the principles of the best interest of the child, of non-discrimination, of doing no harm and of a child rights-based approach to all peace efforts, in accordance with the 2017 Policy on Child Protection in United Nations peace operations.
