The Hellenic Republic supports the initiative of the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations regarding the letter dated 31 December 2023, addressed to the President of the Security Council, titled “Joint Pledges related to Climate, Peace and Security”. The letter underlines the necessity to focus on the implications of climate change in order to advance a systematic, responsive, comprehensive and evidence-based approach to securing international peace and security.
As a signatory party to all major international environmental conventions and protocols, Greece actively participates in ongoing multilateral efforts to strengthen environmental protection at all levels. We believe that climate change disrupts millions of people’s lives and poses a serious threat to international security and prosperity, therefore, if elected, we will continue our efforts for the benefit of present and future generations.
