Ahead of Greece’s tenure on the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for the biennium 2025/26, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepares its framework of synergies with United Nations Security Council Permanent Member States with a purpose to increase its engagement, promote its overarching priorities and maximize its term’s impact.

On October 24, in Athens, the Greek Foreign Ministry (Directorate-General for International Organisations) held technical consultations with the U.S. State Department (Bureau of International Organization Affairs). The two delegations were headed by Director General, Ambassador Maria Theofili and United Nations Political Affairs Office Director, Stephen Gee.

The consultations began with a working luncheon under the theme: “Security Council Dynamics and Open Conversations with Partners”. The discussion focused on a series of issues of bilateral interest within the United Nations in order to exchange views on best practices regarding the technical aspect of the UNSC working methods.
