Ahead of Greece’s tenure on the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for the biennium 2025/26, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepares its framework of synergies with United Nations Security Council Member States with a purpose to increase its engagement, promote its overarching priorities and maximize its term’s impact.
On November 27, a Greek and a Swiss delegation held roundtable discussions in Athens. The Greek side was headed by Hellenic Foreign Ministry Int’l Organisations Director-General, Ambassador Maria Theofili, while the Swiss side was headed by Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Chief of UN Coordination, Ambassador Flavio Milan. The discussions focused on the lessons learned from the two-year tenure of Switzerland on the UN Security Council (2023/24), as an elected (non-permanent) member. The two delegations took stock of the achievements deriving from the bilateral cooperation so far and vowed to pursue further synergies.
