Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met today in Brussels with UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Ms. Sigrid Kaag of the Netherlands. In her role as Coordinator, Ms Kaag is responsible for facilitating, monitoring, and verifying humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza.
During their meeting, Foreign Minister emphasized the Greek initiatives focusing primarily on the reform of the Palestinian Authority institutions and the medical treatment of traumatized children within the European Union, while at the same time he stressed that the EU needs to take the lead in order for a holistic programme offering psychological support to Gaza children and civilians to be provided.
Within this context, and as a Mediterranean country and an elected member of the United Nations for the Security Council, Greece reiterated its support towards United Nations’ mission to provide direct humanitarian assistance, as well as concrete plans and action concerning the region’s reconstruction.
