The Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its deep concern about the targeting of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and underscores its crucial role in light of the regional escalation. Greece stands in full solidarity with the UNIFIL personnel who serve with dedication in these challenging conditions, while urges all parties involved to respect International Law and the safety of peacekeeping troops.

50 countries contribute peacekeepers to the UN Peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The Hellenic Armed Forces contribute with one frigate to UNIFIL through the latter’s Maritime Task Force. Active since October 2006, the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force is the first United Nations Naval Task Force of its kind. Its mission is to support the Lebanese Navy in monitoring its territorial waters, securing the Lebanese coastline and preventing the unauthorized entry of arms or related materiel by sea into Lebanon.
