On December 8, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Task Force in Athens held strategic consultations with a delegation from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was part of the ongoing synergy between the two countries and focused specifically on Latvia’s upcoming tenure on the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the biennium 2026-2027. As of next year, Latvia will become the fourth European country to participate in the UNSC, together with France, Denmark and Greece.

Discussions covered the UN agenda as well as priorities within the United Nations framework. Delegations also exchanged views on recent developments in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Africa. The deliberations concluded with a working lunch hosted by the Head of the Greek Task Force for UNSC, Ambassador Maria Theofili.
