On December 2, Foreign Ministry General Secretary for Economic Diplomacy Dimitris Skalkos participated in a Conference held jointly by the Republic of Egypt and the United Nations, in Cairo to enhance humanitarian response in Gaza. The aim of the Conference was not only to secure financial pledges by the participating countries, but also to formulate a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Addressing the Conference with a speech delivered by Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, the Secretary General encouraged participating countries to uphold and support the work of the humanitarian workers.
Greece pledged to further support the work of UNICEF and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), by earmarking an additional amount of €200,000 to address the population’s emergency needs in Gaza.
