Deputy Foreign Minister visits Israel and the Palestinian Territories

On December 10, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou, visited Israel, where she held talks with her Israeli counterpart, Sharren Haskel. While in Israel, the Deputy Minister also met with members of the families of hostages. During their meeting, Ambassador Papadopoulou expressed full support for their immediate and unconditional release. Deputy Minister Papadopoulou also travelled to Ramallah, where she met with the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammad Mustafa. They discussed the dire situation in Gaza and the West Bank, regional developments, and bilateral relations.  

While in Ramallah, the Greek Minister held a joint meeting with European Union’s two bodies operating under the Common Security and Defence Policy  (CSDP) umbrella. The first one is the EUPOL COPPS, an EU Mission for the Support of Palestinian Police and Rule of Law. The second is EUBAM Rafah, an EU Mission with a mandate to monitor operations at the Rafah Border Crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. The Greek Deputy Minister commended the contribution of the European Union and, together with the officials discussed the Missions’ challenges and next steps for peace and security. Discussions focused on regional developments, as well as issues related to Greece’s tenure in the UN Security Council for the 2025/26 term.
