On October 25, a thought-provoking event on the philosophical work of the towering figure of Nikos Kazantzakis was hosted by the Hellenic Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The world renowned and highly influential Greek writer was born in Crete in 1883. He is considered a colossal figure of modern Greek literature, with nine separate nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature and remains the most translated Greek author worldwide.
Titled after one of the philosopher’s main quotes “Reach what you cannot,” from his spiritual biography ‘Report to Greco’, the event aimed at highlighting the universality of Kazantzakis’s messages with regard to his extensive travels and studies of other countries, as well as with regard to what he perceived as a need for the old world to be destroyed and for something new to take its place.
