A ‘sea of opportunities (and challenges)’ brings Greece closer to the Atlantic & Pacific

Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giorgos Gerapetritis is on an official visit to the Unites Nations Headquarters, in New York. On February 12, Foreign Minister Gerapetritis held a meeting with the Heads of Permanent Missions of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the organization which was established to promote cooperation among the states throughout the Americas and Atlantic Ocean.

Similarly, the Minister also held a working lunch with the Heads of Permanent Missions of the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS), another community also established to enable vulnerable countries to adopt viable solutions.

Addressing the meetings, the Greek Minister seized the opportunity to present the priorities of Greece’s candidacy to the United Nations Security Council for the biennium 2025/26. In this context, the Minister discussed areas of collaboration and potential future synergies, while he elaborated on one of the top priorities of the Greek candidacy, the need for maritime protection.

After stressing the gravity of the situation and the importance of acting upon maritime security challenges at all levels, the Minister informed his partners about the upcoming International 9th Our Ocean Conference, which will be held in Athens on April 15-17.
