At this morning’s UN Security Council meeting on Non-Proliferation (Iran/ 1737 Committee), the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪️ Stressed that the re-establishment of the 1737 Committee and its Panel of Experts was both valid and legitimate.
↪️ Repeated that Iran, whose nature and scale of nuclear activities remain of serious concern, must never develop or acquire a nuclear weapon.
↪️ Highlighted the need for Iran to cooperate fully and constructively with the IAEA.
↪️ Underlined that diplomacy and a negotiated settlement remain the only viable path towards lasting peace and stability in Iran and the region.
↪️ Argued that the right of transit passage through international straits, such as the Strait of Hormuz, as reflected in the UNCLOS, must be fully respected.
