UN Security Council briefing on Haiti

At today’s UN Security Council meeting on Haiti, the Permanent Representative of Greece:

↪️ Echoed the Secretary General’s message of solidarity with the Haitian people expressed during his recent visit.

↪️ Welcomed the commencement of Gang Suppression Force (GSF) operations and the operational support provided by the UN Support Office in Haiti.

↪️ Welcomed the amended electoral decree and revised electoral budget, and underlined the need for credible, inclusive and safe elections.

↪️ Voiced alarm over the recruitment of children by gangs and support for a Haitian-led Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program.

↪️ Condemned the use of sexual violence against women and girls.

↪️ Reiterated Greece’s support to the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (UNBINUH), the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Haiti Mr Ruiz Massieu, UN Office for Drugs and Crime, the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict Ms. Vanessa Frazier and the Special Representative for GSF Mr. Jack Christofides.
