At today’s UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, the Permanent Representative of Greece:
↪️ Condemned the latest Russian attacks in the beginning of July against Ukrainian cities and any deliberate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, wherever they may occur, and called for strict adherence to the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
↪️ Referred to the latest report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which documents systematic violations against Ukrainian prisoners of war and residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and called on Russia to cease these violations.
↪️ Reiterated that a comprehensive ceasefire is needed now more than ever, as an important first step towards a negotiated just and lasting peace settlement, based on international law, the UN Charter and the principles of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all states.
↪️ Stressed than any peace settlement should preclude the change of borders through the use of force and guarantee Ukraine’s security and ability to defend itself in the future.
