UNSC’s EU m-s and the EU meet for consultations in Riga, Latvia

On March 30-31, representatives from the European Union and current EU member states serving on the United Nations Security Council (Denmark, France, Greece and Latvia) met in Riga, Latvia for consultations within the framework of the regular rotation meetings. The Hellenic Foreign Ministry was represented by the Head of the UNSC Task Force, Ambassador Maria Theofili.

A central objective of these meetings is to strengthen coordination between the EU member states and the European External Action Service, the diplomatic service of the European Union, ensuring unity within the UN security Council. To secure that European values and interests are effectively represented within the UN’s primary body for international peace and security, EU members at the UNSC engage in regular deliberations and strategic planning.

Discussions covered issues of the United Nations Security Council agenda, putting emphasis on streamlining common action in the face of current geopolitical developments, while at the same time, delegations exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East, Ukraine and Africa.
