UN Security Council Briefing on the Cooperation between the United Nations and regional subregional organizations in maintaining international peace and security (European Union)

At today’s UNSC Briefing on the Cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union, the Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Greece:

↪ Highlighted the necessity of effective multilateralism, stressing the common values of both UN & EU, on the basis of International Law and the UN Charter.

↪ Noted that the EU remains a credible political, operational and financial partner of the UN.

↪ Stressed that EU engagement complements and often implements UNSC mandates across multiple theaters while the UN-EU strategic partnership ranges from peace operations and conflict prevention to maritime security.

↪ Reiterated Greece’s -along with EU partners- unequivocal condemnation of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, while stressing that Greece supported UNSC Res. 2817 against Iranian attacks in the Middle East, while across Africa the scale and complexity of crises demonstrate the need of strengthened UN-EU cooperation.
