UN Security Council meeting on on the situation in Afghanistan (UNAMA)

At the UN Security Council meeting on UNAMA, the Permanent Representative of Greece:

↪ Stressed that the thoughts of the international community are with the women of Afghanistan, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day and CSW70.

↪ Called upon the Taliban to immediately reverse all restrictive policies and practices against women and girls, including on education and access to UN premises for Afghan women UN personnel.

↪ Urged the Taliban to honor Afghanistan’s international obligations, including CEDAW.

↪ Expressed concern at the recent cross-border clashes and called for unimpeded humanitarian access, while reiterating that the territory of Afghanistan should not be used to threaten or attack any country and calling on the Taliban to combat terrorism.

↪ Reiterated Greece’s support for the renewal of UNAMA’s mandate in its entirety and welcomed the recent visit of USG DiCarlo in Afghanistan
